Who we are
At Beach Tennis WA, passion meets purpose. What began as a shared dream between two world-class athletes—Tuko Maia and Clarisse Menezes—has grown into one of Australia’s most dynamic beach tennis communities, built on excellence, inclusivity, and love for the game.
Leading the Way in Australia
Beach Tennis WA (BTWA) is proud to be the first beach tennis club affiliated with Tennis Australia and the driving force behind bringing the ITF Beach Tennis World Tour to Australian shores. From humble beginnings on the beaches of Western Australia, BTWA has since become a national leader in the development, promotion, and professionalization of beach tennis.
The Visionaries Behind the Sand
Tuko Maia brings unmatched experience and dedication to the world of sport and performance. With a postgraduate degree in Sports Administration, he served as Sport Information Coordinator for the Paralympic Games, advocating inclusion and sporting excellence. Tuko also brings over 15 years of experience as an Exercise Physiologist in Mental Health for the WA Health Department, using physical activity to support wellbeing and recovery—an ethos that continues to shape his coaching approach. Twice named Coach of the Year at the University of Western Australia (UWA) and a former Australian and Oceania Fencing Champion, Tuko exemplifies resilience, commitment, and leadership both on and off the court.
Clarisse Menezes mirrors that same passion and drive. A bronze medalist at the World Military Pentathlon Championship, she made history as the first Brazilian woman to win a Pan-American Fencing Medal. Trained as a dentist, Clarisse’s interests extend far beyond her profession—she’s a passionate advocate for finance, innovation, and progress in sport. Her creativity, professionalism, and pioneering mindset help lead BTWA’s growth and community engagement.
A New Chapter: High Performance and Development
In 2026, BTWA proudly welcomed August Simoneto — “Guto”, a young Brazilian beach tennis sensation and former Junior World Champion. As the High Performance and Development Coach, Guto brings boundless energy, skill, and infectious enthusiasm to every training session, lifting the entire club to new heights of performance and professionalism.
Our Passion, Your Community
Together, Tuko, Clarisse, and Guto embody the essence of Beach Tennis WA—world-class expertise, community spirit, and an unshakable love for the sport. BTWA isn’t just a club; it’s a movement that celebrates growth, wellbeing, and connection through beach tennis.
At BTWA, every rally tells the same story: passion, excellence, and unity—on and off the sand.
